USS Triton

"If scientific knowledge was all we were after, then the Federation would have built a fleet of probes, not starships. Exploration is about seeing things with your own eyes."

- Captain Kathryn Janeway, USS Voyager, Stardate 53292.7

The Luna-class USS Triton was commissioned in 2390 as part of Starfleet's continuing commitment to exploration and scientific discovery following recovery from the devastating Dominion War. It completed an initial five-year exploration mission in the Beta Quadrant before being redeployed to the Alpha Quadrant for survey work in a joint mission with Cardassian forces. Near the outset of the mission, the ship took extensive damage in an engagement with the Breen and was reassigned to Starbase 50 for repair, refit and resupply.

Now in 2396, the Triton is under the command of Commander Soraya Rezvani and has been assigned to Obsidian Fleet's Task Force 72. Classified as a multi-mission strategic explorer, the Triton will take on a wide variety of missions, including scientific investigation of new phenomena; establishing contact with new civilizations; pursuing intercultural exchange; and protecting the strategic interests of the Federation.

Our game is a collective writing endeavor centering around the adventures of the USS Triton. While many such groups exist, the Triton distinguishes itself by embracing the core values of Star Trek: the exploration of the unknown, the exploration of the self, and the exploration of moral and social issues through a science fiction medium. We have a heavy focus on player involvement and quality writing, and the command staff makes special effort to build an inclusive and welcoming community that appreciates diversity. Our missions are designed with both writers and role-players in mind, and we make every effort to engage players in creating the kind of game that they'll enjoy.

We invite you to learn more about the ship's philosophy, its talented and diverse crew, and join us as we explore the galaxy together! (Please note that the USS Triton is a game not suitable for persons under the age of 18.)

» New Player - Clancy (Rohan Sutulhar)

Posted on Thu Jun 25th, 2020 @ 6:23am by Commander Soraya Rezvani in General News

Howdy, y'all! We have a new player coming aboard. Clancy will be playing Rohan Sutulhar, our chief flight control officer. He's already in our Discord server, so feel free to say hello and explore opportunities to write together. Shi and I have written with him in the past, and we're looking forward to the opportunity again! He'll be a great addition to the crew.

In other news, as you've probably noticed, I haven't been as active these past couple of weeks. Work has been very demanding, as I know it has been for a lot of you, too. And that's okay! We write when we have time and energy, right? Our focus is still on the away mission posts at the Breen base for the moment. I'll be touching base with all of you over the weekend via Discord just to see how you're doing so talk to you soon!

» New Player - Bruno (Torlek) & Personnel Changes

Posted on Sun Jun 7th, 2020 @ 2:03am by Commander Soraya Rezvani in General News

Howdy, y'all! We have a new player coming aboard. Bruno will be introducing Torlek Stone, son of Chang, of the House Torlek! Ensign Stone will be our new Klingon diplomatic officer. Yes, that's right. Our new Klingon diplomatic officer. But don't worry, he's quite tame. More human than Klingon, like a reverse Worf. Bruno comes to us from Portugal, so he'll be joining our growing legion of European players. He's an avid gamer - PC, board, etc. - and has written in other fleets, so he's no stranger to the genre.

Two other personnel matters of note:

(1) Lieutenant Ren Trell has shifted over from the science department to the security department. Sometimes you just need to put down the tricorder and pick up a phaser rifle, am I right?

(2) Arlie is going to be joining our senior staff as Lieutenant JG Arlina, the new Rigelian chief science officer. That'll complete our senior staff and fill in a critical role on our science ship! (Lieutenant JG T'savo will be sticking around in the medical department as an NPC.)

» Pride & Triton

Posted on Tue Jun 2nd, 2020 @ 3:30am by Commander Soraya Rezvani in General News

Howdy, y'all! It's the month of June, which is LGBTQ+ Pride Month for us here in the United States, and I've changed our website & Discord channel just a bit to celebrate! I also wanted to share some of my thoughts and experiences on the matter within our community.

Over the (many) years I've been participating, I've seen Star Trek simming change quite a bit. When I first started participating about 20 years ago, sexuality was essentially a forbidden topic. And as a player in a same-sex relationship who sometimes writes characters in same-sex relationships, I've not always felt welcome on different simulations. I've been unduly criticized. I've had my storylines ridiculed and openly mocked. I've myself been sexually harassed by other players. And this kind of intolerance has extended beyond the issue of sexuality - I've been criticized over issues of gender, religion, and race, too.

My personal experiences have helped shape the kind of community vision that I have for the Triton. Things are a lot better now, of course, both in our Trek community and the wider world, but that doesn't mean we're without issues. That's why I want the Triton to openly be a safe space for our writers, so that they can explore whatever stories they like without having to worry about judgment, interference, or outright bigotry from those around them.

I'm so glad that so many of you have hopped on board with us, joined our community, and helped promulgate that sense of acceptance. So, here's to many more stories from many more of us exploring infinite diversity in infinite combinations!

» Mission 00: Tick-Tock Awards

Posted on Fri May 29th, 2020 @ 2:45am by Commander Soraya Rezvani in General News

Although we have a lingering post or two out there for Mission 00: Tick-Tock, I've closed it off to new posts in Nova. Which means it's awards time! Remember that you can (and should) nominate your fellow players for awards at any time by visiting this link. I'll be adding these awards to character bios in the coming days. Congratulations, everyone!

Captain's Personal Merit: Awarded solely at the captain's discretion and generally given at least once per mission. It can be used to recognize quality contributions to the ship's story line, out of character contributions to the maintenance of the game, or anything else the commanding officer wishes to highlight.

Ensign Zyrra Thelin (Paul): The Captain's Personal Merit award for Mission 00 goes to Paul for his contributions with Zyrra Thelin, our local sassy Andorian. He had valuable and inventive involvement in the mission's plot, and he's also met the challenge of writing an often difficult species to play. Did you know there are only three other Andorian player characters in the whole fleet? I'm looking forward to seeing more of Zyrra sassin' in action!

Cut the Green Wire: Awarded for participating in defusing the Breen protomatter bomb planted on the Triton in Mission 00: Tick-Tock in the post "Tick Tock Merrily Sings The Explosive Protomatter Device."

Commander Soraya Rezvani (Bryan)
Lieutenant Commander Vriaral Dariars (Becca)
Ensign Zyrra Thelin (Paul)
Senior Chief Petty Officer Jaylen Elam (Malcolm)

Port of Call - SB50: Awarded for making a post located on Starbase 50 during Mission 00: Tick-Tock.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Jaylen Elam (Malcolm) for "Arrivals"
Commander Soraya Rezvani (Bryan) for "Inviting Darkness," "Quality Officers," "Masterful Musical Meetings," and "An Even(ish) Trade"
Lieutenant Commander Vriaral Dariars (Becca) for "Inviting Darkness"
Ensign Zyrra Thelin (Paul) for "Quality Officers"
Lieutenant Commander Hanuel Seong (Shi) for "Masterful Musical Meetings"
Lieutenant JG T'savo (Arlie) for "Unto the Breech" and "An Even(ish) Trade"

Triton's Conch: Awarded to the founding players of the USS Triton in recognition of their support, commitment, and contributions to making the simulation a success. (Joined in the first 3 months of operation.)

Commander Soraya Rezvani (Bryan) - Mar 5th, 2020
Lieutenant Commander Vriaral Dariars (Becca) - Mar 6th, 2020
Lieutenant Commander Hanuel Seong (Shi) - Mar 17th, 2020
Ensign Zyrra Thelin (Paul) - Mar 18th, 2020

Lieutenant Khrysara Ral (Nate) - Apr 3rd, 2020
Lieutenant Cassius Eurus (Eli) - Apr 5th, 2020
Lieutenant Xavier Leiko (Kieran) - Apr 21st, 2020
Lieutenant JG T'savo (Arlie) - Apr 21st, 2020
Ensign Jarin Nun (Avraham) - May 11th, 2020
Lieutenant Ren Trell (Rob) - May 18th, 2020

» New Player - Rob (Ren Trell)

Posted on Tue May 19th, 2020 @ 2:08am by Commander Soraya Rezvani in General News

Howdy, gang! We're fortunate enough to have another player joining our ranks. Rob will be coming on board with Lieutenant Ren Trell, our new Betazoid chief science officer. Rob is a "traditional Trekker" with TNG at the top of his list. I've always thought the TNG model is a good one for sims to emulate, so he ought to fit right in. Although many of us already know him from the Discord channel, be sure to welcome him nonetheless and get in touch to explore ways you can write together.
